Hi Beth,

Google accounts and groups are very very weird. I have spent hours trying to solve a similar problem to yours for a member of a group I manage – its hard to get a mental model of how they think the system SHOULD work. It looks as though accounts which are started with a google mail address have a different status to accounts which are started with another email provider – as you can’t add a gmail address as an alternate, nor can you CHANGE your primary email TO gmail from another – but you can change from say yahoo to hotmail. Very weird – as I can’t find any difference in what each account allows you to do.

Hi Diane,

I was wondering if you could help… I opened a blog and then opened a gmail account a while back that I didn’t mean to relate to the same google account. Since I’ve handed the blog over to someone else, I deleted my gmail account yesterday but it’s still showing up as the primary email for that blog. When the gmail is canceled, will it still do this or will the primary email transfer to something else (maybe the secondary email). Basically is there a way to change the primary email? Can the person who took over the blog create another gmail after mine is deleted to take the new primary email spot?
